This unusual and quite striking Parker “51”, using Parker’s vacumatic filling system, has a rolled gold band on the pen barrel. Whilst the band carries the initials “FKH” it is in decorative italic writing and rather enhances the pen. An English pen, it comes with an American converging lines pattern cap that as well as having the grey “jewel” in the cap crown sports the Parker branding and “Blue Diamond” on the clip. The text around the cap lip reads “1/10 16k Gold Filled Made in U.S.A.” The barrel has a feint imprint under the clutch ring but all I can make out is “Made in England”. The smooth medium nib states “Parker Made in Canada 14kt 1947”. So a Canadian nib, an early American cap and an English barrel – it sounds rather odd but it adds up to an attractive and unusual 51. How to date it? Well a nib can always be changed so that is a little unreliable, it is unlikely to be 1947 as 51 caps had begun to change by then, so I have settled on 1945.The vacumatic pump fill system was very popular at the time and provides a clean and easy filling method (Parker changed to the aerometric fill in 1950.) Condition is good with only minor age wear as can be seen in the montage. It measures 136mm with cap on and 152mm with cap on barrel end. So an unusual and striking Parker 51 that will sit well in a collection  (I doubt I will ever see another one like it) but will also serve as a distinctive everyday writer. All fountain pens are professionally serviced and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. Filling instructions will be sent with your order. A gift box is available free of charge on request at checkout where you may also select your method of payment.

This delightful “Ladies Writing Set” was made by Waterman in England in 1946. The 512v model (as it is known) was made particularly for the smaller hand. It is in a finish called Grey Striated with gold fill trim and, as you will see from the photographs, it comes within its original cardboard presentation gift box. The set is in good condition with only minimum age wear. The fountain pen smooth medium nib states “Waterman’s 14ct. W-2A” and the crisp barrel inscription reads “Waterman’s Made in England 512V”. The cap has a very decorative broad gold fill band and a “Waterman’s” clip. The expel/repel pencil is also in working order with a Waterman’s clip, the same decorative gold fill band and a barrel inscription stating “Waterman’s Made in England”.  The combination of gold fill trim and grey striated finish is very pleasing. The fountain pen measures 108mm with cap on and 133mm with cap on barrel end. The pencil measures 111mm. The box comprises the base where the pen and pencil sit and the lid that has an attractive polka dot design. This fine writing set, in its original presentation box, is in very good condition with (as you will note from the montage) a few “scribble” marks to the inner left box panel and the minimum of age wear on the pencil. All fountain pens are professionally serviced and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. Filling instructions will be sent with your order. A gift box is available free of charge at checkout where you can also select your method of payment.

This vintage fountain pen - the Parker “51”, was launched in England by Parker in the early 50’s. Its aerodynamic design has made it a classic and the plaudits it has received over the years both in terms of design and reliability are well deserved. It has been marketed as 51…the world’s most wanted pen”. This particular version, rarer than most, has a body in Black and the sought after rolled silver cap with rolled gold clip. This particular cap was introduced in 1952 and it is believed to have been produced only in England. It carries the text “Parker R. Silver” and this dates it as an early cap c1952. It comes with a smooth Parker 51 medium point nib that states “585 14K Parker England ”. Condition of both pen and cap is good with some age wear to the rolled silver cap as can be seen in the montage. The aerometric filling system is often termed "squeezebox" and is a very simple method of filling the pen with ink by unscrewing the barrel to expose a metal shell covering the ink sac - just press the metal bar and release up to five times and this vintage pen is ready to use. It measures 136mm with cap on and 151mm with cap on barrel end. The Parker "51" was an outstandingly popular fountain pen in its day and it remains a stylish and extremely good “work horse” today. All fountain pens are professionally serviced and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. Filling instructions will be sent with your order. A gift box is available free of charge on request at checkout where you may also select your method of payment.

This “Carltonware for Parker” desk pen holder was made in England c1930 to fashionably accommodate the Parker Duofold fountain pens of the period - however as you will see from the montage it will also accommodate a 1950's Parker 51 with taper barrel.  The stand's function is to hold the pen upright in the central tulip on a desk without its cap and usual barrel whilst maintaining the ink flow for immediate use. The cap and barrel are placed in the stand's dished tray until you wish to take the pen elsewhere. At which point you unscrew the tulip and put the cap and barrel back on for transportation - leaving the taper barrel in the tulip for use the next time. You will see from the montage that the attractive design is a chinoiserie enamel decoration on a dark blue field with a gilt outline. Condition is very good. Note that the base baize has been replaced at some stage but the Carltonware branding is still crisp. Along the rear edge is the Parker logo. It measures 92mm wide x 155mm long x 30mm high. “Carltonware for Parker” deskpen holders are rare to come to market particularly in this condition. It is illustrated and sold with a black Parker 51 fountain pen with a medium nib, rolled gold cap, normal pen barrel and a taper barrel end.

This vintage fountain pen and pencil set was made by Conway Stewart, in England around 1953. The pattern is called Green Hatch and the model, a No.60, was their flagship selling for 35 shillings until it was overtaken by the No.100 in 1954. As you will see from the photograph the fountain pen cap has one broad rolled gold band and the distinctive Conway diamond clip. The barrel carries the original Conway lever and a good imprint stating “Conway Stewart 60 – Made in England”. The nib fits the model stating “DURO Conway Stewart 14ct Gold 60” and has a smooth medium point. The matching expel/repel pencil is also in full working order and carries the Conway clip and two thin rolled gold bands. The text on the pencil reads “The Conway No.18 – Conway Stewart”. Replacement lead size is 1.18mm and Yard O Led will suffice. Condition on both items is very good with very minor age wear to the trim. They come in the original Conway gift box which is in good condition apart from a scuff mark on the lid top – as shown in the montage. The No.60 is a chunky pen measuring 127mm with cap on and 15mm with cap on barrel end. The pencil is 130mm long. A good example of Conway Stewart at their best, this attractive vintage pen and pencil set, in the original box, is suitable to either add to a collection or use as an everyday workhorse. All fountain pens are professionally serviced and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection will be carried out before despatch. Filling instructions will be sent with your order.

This vintage fountain pen is one of the successful Targa range - a model produced by the Sheaffer Pen Company from 1976 to 1999. This is model 1004 – a sterling silver finish with a straight line pattern to barrel and cap. It is an early example with the Sheaffer crown imprinted on the cap lip. The cap lip also carries the text Sterling Silver Sheaffer U.S.A.” with a “925” mark. It is reported that this mark appeared only on items destined for France or England. It has the stylish Sheaffer 14k inlaid nib with a smooth medium point. As you would expect it has the Sheaffer “Lifetime” white dot on the clip and black inlaid ends to cap and barrel. The pull off/push on cap secures with a satisfying click. It has a squeezebox filling system fitted but you could use a Sheaffer ink cartridge if you prefer. Condition is good with some general age wear but nothing significant as you will see in the montage. It is quite a substantial pen in the hand and measures 135mm with cap on and 152mm with cap on barrel end. The Targa series, with its wide range of finishes, is an interesting model to collect as well as a pleasure to use everyday. All fountain pens are professionally serviced by Vintage Fountain Pens Inc. and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. This substantial vintage fountain pen was made by Waterman in the 1920’s. The 9ct gold overlay on hard rubber is in a rare and attractive pattern called “Line and Dot”. The added attraction of this particular example is that the gold is overlaid on a hard rubber in a pattern Waterman called “Ripple” in a colour they termed “Ripple Rose”. It is this combination of 9ct overlay line and dot pattern on Ripple-Rose which makes it an exceptionally rare example. Until this time vulcanized rubber was only available in black but Waterman perfected a method of incorporating a colour. The range included  “Ripple Blue-Green, “Ripple Olive” and this the “Ripple-Rose”. Waterman advertisements of the period stated “Nothing so beautiful in pens has ever been produced before” . The cap has a Waterman ball ended “Clip Cap” of the period. The barrel gold markings state“FDW 9 375” (rubbed) and hallmark for London 1923. FDW stands for Frank D. Waterman. His uncle, Lewis E. Waterman, was the founder of Waterman in 1888 - it was his nephew Frank who became the company ambassador abroad. He was entrusted with the distribution of Waterman pens in England via the London stationer L.G. Sloane. Normally you would find more markings around the smooth tapered area at the bottom of the barrel but these have been smoothed off over time. The medium flexible nib writes a wet line and states “Waterman’s Ideal REg.U.S. PAT. OFF. 2 Made in U.S.A.”. Condition is good with a minor ding on the crown of the cap. It is also worth noting, as you will see from the montage, that the personalization lozenge is engraved with the initials “FCP” – this is reflected in the price. Its weight is 26grams and it measures 140mm with cap on and 173mm with cap on barrel end. This is a rare and exceptional vintage fountain pen, evocative of its era of style and elegance and it will sit well in a vintage fountain pen collection. It is also suitable to use everyday. All fountain pens are professionally serviced and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. Filling instructions will be sent with your order. This aerometric filling vintage fountain pen range was introduced by Parker in 1953 and, with its solid colour range and rolled gold trim, was well received. It sold well until the range was discontinued in 1962. This particular example, in a colour Parker termed simply “Green” dates from 1954 and is one of the larger models. It is a chunky and long vintage pen measuring 138mm with cap on and 155mm with cap on barrel end. The cap has the Parker single decorative chevron band and the Parker arrow clip. The barrel imprint has faded over the years but what can be seen states “Parker Duofold”. The good size medium to broad point nib is a slightly wet writer and states “Parker 14k England”. The filler unit is a very simple squeezebox method. This classic vintage fountain pen is in good condition with only minor age wear and is suitable for everyday use. All fountain pens are professionally serviced and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. This Parker Junior Duofold vintage fountain pen was made in America around 1929 and is a classic Parker fountain pen of the period. It is a shortish but chunky pen measuring 116mm with cap on and 144mm with cap on barrel end. The barrel imprint states “Geo S. Parker Duofold – Made in U.S.A. Patented”. The Parker medium point nib states “Parker Pen – 14k N” and is a pleasing writer. The “N” on the nib stands for the UK Newhaven plant and so it is likely that the nib has been changed since the 1920’s. The cap has the Parker Duofold ball ended clip and two rolled gold cap bands. It is in good condition with some general age wear to barrel and cap. This vintage pen is a button filler – you undo the cap at the end of the barrel to reveal a button – depress the button and you deflate the sac – let go of the button and the ink fills the sac – easy. A good shortish chunky everyday writer -  a classic of the period and one that will also sit well in a vintage fountain pen collection.
