Medium nib, Aerometric fill system.
This vintage fountain pen and pencil set, part of a recently puchased collection, was made by Parker in America in the late 1940’s. The aerodynamic design of the "51" has made it a classic and the plaudits it has received over the years both in terms of design and reliability are well deserved. It has been marketed as “51…the world’s most wanted pen”. This particular “51” fountain pen and pencil set has a body colour which Parker termed “Forest Green” - a very dark green and a “51” colour which is quite rare to find today. The cap of the fountain pen is in a smooth polished metal with the Parker branding around the lip of the cap and the light grey Parker “jewel” on the cap crown. The Forest Green barrel covers the aerometric (squeezebox) filling unit the text of which states: “Parker 51 To fill press ribbed bar firmly 4 times. Use dry writing superchrome ink holding pen point down, wipe point with soft tissue. The Parker Pen Co. Made in U.S.A.” The Parker 51 nib has a medium smooth point and reads “Parker Made in U.S.A. RU 1948”. The Forest Green pencil has a matching polished metal cap and the light grey Parker “jewel” on the cap crown. It is a repeater style pencil which is operated by pushing the cap down on the barrel to expose more lead. Both the fountain pen and the pencil are in good condition with only minor age wear. The fountain pen measures 135mm with cap on and 164mm with cap on barrel end. The pencil is 132mm long. “51”’s are always a good workhorse - suitable for everyday use and, particularly in this colour, for adding to a “51” collection. All fountain pens are professionally serviced and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. Filling instructions will be sent with your order. A gift box is available free of charge on request at checkout.
