Fine to Medium nib, Aerometric fill system.
This aerometric filling Parker “51” with its gold filled overlay on cap and barrel, was made in the U.S.A. in 1950. Parker called it the “Signet” (the model was renamed in 1957 to Insignia following legal advice). Its aerodynamic design has made it a classic and it has been marketed as “51…the world’s most wanted pen”. The Parker 51 fine to medium point nib states “14k Parker England” so this has obviously been replaced over the years. Condition of both barrel and cap is good with only minor age wear and, in a good light, a very small ding is visible on the cap to the left of the clip. The cap carries the Parker arrow clip and has the Parker grey “jewel” in the cap crown and states “Parker 1/10 14k Gold Filled” around the cap lip. The barrel carries the text “Made in U.S.A. 50.0”. The aerometric filling system is often termed "squeezebox" and is a very simple method of filling the pen with ink by unscrewing the barrel to expose the steel sleeve filler covering the ink sac - just press the metal bar and release up to four times and this vintage pen is ready to use. It is a good size fountain pen measuring 135mm with cap on and 149mm with cap on barrel end. The Parker "51" was an outstandingly popular fountain pen in its day and remains a stylish and extremely good “workhorse” today. Representing Parker at its best, this is an excellent vintage fountain pen for adding to a vintage fountain pen collection or to use everyday. All fountain pens are professionally serviced and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. Filling instructions will be sent with your order. A gift box is available free of charge on request at checkout where you may select your method of payment. There is some light reflection in the montage.
