Condition: Very Good
This 1930’s marble pen stand surmounted by a brown bear is typical of the type of pen stands of the period, particularly those created for Parker. It was made to fashionably accommodate the Duofold fountain pens of the period that are still available today as restored working models. The function of the pen stand is to hold the pen upright, ready to use without its cap, in the black tulip. The owner can simply pick up the pen and write whilst at their desk and, when leaving home or office, replace the cap and clip the pen into their pocket. Of course it is also a very decorative item and the bear an office/home companion. You will see from the montage that the bear has fur markings and a smooth area on top of its back. It has obviously been well stroked over the years. The marble stand with its colour mix of brown, red and gold has a green baize base and only minor age wear. The tulip rotates to enable you to turn the pen to suit your position. It is a good size pen stand measuring 181mm long, 82mm deep and 68mm high (including height of bear). Pen stands of this type are rare to come to market, particularly in this condition. As mentioned, it will accommodate a Parker Duofold fountain pen of the late 1920’s/30’s(see stock number 5858 as an example).
